Mom, Minis, and Me – Happy 92nd Birthday, Mom!

Now that I have finished my novel, I can focus on completing some of my other projects. One that has been waiting in the wings for a number of years is a book about my mother’s and my dollhouse history. This will probably be just for the family’s enjoyment, as I’m not sure the subject holds wide appeal.

My mom, Doris Lichtenthal Falcone, passed away on December 2, 2011. She left a legacy of humor, quirkiness, and family bonds. But there was one special thing Mom passed on to me that was not really shared with my siblings (except for maybe my youngest sister)—her love of dollhouse miniatures. We shared many special moments while pursuing our hobby. Creating a book is a way to memorialize those moments and provide her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and any future generations to come, a glimpse into the miniature worlds we created.

Our mutual love for the Ideal Petite Princess and Princess Patti lines of dollhouse furniture resulted in my writing a book about the furniture line with co-author Linda Gant. Mom joined me at a 2010 miniature show to help me promote “The Complete Reference Guide to Ideal’s 1964 and 1965 Petite Princess and Princess Patti Dollhouse Furniture.” It would be one of the last mini-events we shared.

I miss my mother. I think of her every day. I thank her for the gift she gave me—the love of dollhouse miniatures. When I work with my “minis” I feel as though she is with me. It was something we bonded over. It is something that will forever bind my heart with hers.

Love and miss you, Mom!

  1. I am so grateful your mother introduced you to our “World of Minis.” I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of writing our “Petite Princess Reference Guide” together without her influence upon your life.
    Princess Wishes,
    Linda
